‘Disappointing for June’ temperatures to continue across UK | UK weather

There are early signs of high pressure building up from the west, but cool and wet weather is likely to continue across the UK, forecasters say.
After a cool and windy weekend, Monday and Tuesday will remain cool for the time of year, the weather service said, although they will feel warmer with sheltered sunshine.
Monday’s heavier rain should taper off by Tuesday and overnight temperatures will be in the single digits with a chance of frost in rural areas.
Ellie Glaser, a Met Office meteorologist, said the temperatures were “disappointing for June”. The average temperature for this time of year is usually between 13C-16C in the north and 17C-19C in the south, with temperatures expected to be slightly below that over the next few days.
The Met Office said it will remain cool this week with a mix of sunny spells and showers, with cloud and rain on Thursday.
The long-range forecast from the Met Office is for a mix of sunshine and showers over the weekend, with showers becoming heavy at times and developing slowly, with a chance of thunder.
The forecaster said rain will not fall everywhere and many places could see warm, sunny days with light winds.
He said confidence in his forecast for next week was low. “There are preliminary signs of high pressure building up from the west at times, but showers or longer spells of rain are also likely to affect the country, with the eastern half of England and Scotland likely to be wetter or most finally more rainy weather.”
By midday on Monday there were 11 flood alerts from the Environment Agency, mostly covering central England after heavy rain on Monday morning.
