Hot air balloon tangles in power lines during rural NSW crash at Buronga, near the Victorian border

A hot air balloon became entangled in power lines during a crash in the countryside NSWclose to VIC border, on Sunday morning.

Those aboard the balloon were trapped in the basket for a time, but no one was injured.

The multi-agency response to ensure the safety of those on board began at the Buronga paddock shortly before 9am.

NSW Police were only engaged initially to help find a safe place to land the balloon, a spokesman said.

The basket was already on the ground when NSW Fire and Rescue Service and NSW Rural Fire Service crews arrived.

“It was entangled in power lines,” a fire and rescue spokesman told 7NEWS.

As downed power lines send waves of energy outward through the ground, the balloon’s occupants remain trapped until Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service are able to coordinate with the energy supplier to turn off power to the area.

“Then we just got the passengers out,” the Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.

Paramedics were on standby but all balloon passengers declined assessment, NSW Ambulance Service told 7NEWS.com.au.
