The former mayor of New York and lawyer for Donald Trump, Rudy Giulianierupted in court Tuesday, telling a judge, “I can’t pay my bills!”

The hearing in federal court in Manhattan concerns a nearly $150 million lawsuit won by Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss, two Georgia election officials whom Giuliani defamed while pushing Trump’s lie that election fraud in 2020 cost him the victory over Joe Biden.
Liman said Giuliani did not comply asset transfer orders.
Giuliani said Tuesday: “The inferences you’re making against me are wrong. I have no car, no credit card, no cash, everything I have is tied up, they put freeze orders on my business accounts and I can’t pay my bills!”
Giuliani’s fall was spectacular. After making a name for himself as a tough prosecutor who took on organized crime, he served as mayor for two terms, serving as September 11, 2001 and widely praised for his leadership after the terrorist attacks on the US. His candidacy for president in 2008 failed, but Giuliani enjoyed a successful consulting and public speaking career before aligning himself with Trump when the real estate mogul entered Republican politics in 2015.
Giuliani missed out on a Cabinet appointment but became Trump’s personal lawyer, a job that fueled Trump first impeachmentin 2019 to blackmail Ukraine for political dirt. In New York on Tuesday, Giuliani’s lawyer told a judge that his client had turned over assets, including a Mercedes Benz sports car once owned by movie star Lauren Bacall. An attorney for Freeman & Moss said Giuliani turned over the car, but not ownership of it. Lawyers for both women also said they were gain access to Giuliani’s $5 million apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, but did not secure “the keys, shares or ownership lease.”
In court, the judge told Giuliani’s lawyer: “A car without a title is meaningless … your client is a competent person. He was the U.S. Attorney for the district. The idea that he cannot apply for a certificate of title…
Giuliani cut him off by saying, “I ran! What should I do, figure it out myself? Your implication that I haven’t been diligent about it is completely incorrect.
He then began his outburst about financial problems.
Giuliani’s attorney asked Liman for an extension because he had barely started the case after previous attorneys withdrew. Liman rejected the request, saying, “You can’t reset the clock by firing one attorney and hiring another. He has already received several extensions and missed numerous deadlines.
A trial is set for Jan. 16 on whether Giuliani must also give Moss and Freeman his Florida home and four New York Yankees World Series Commemorative Rings. On Tuesday, Giuliani’s lawyer asked if the trial could be delayed so his client could attend inauguration events for Trump, who will be sworn in as president in Washington on Jan. 20. Liman said no.
Outside court, Giuliani told reporters that Liman “is going to rule against me. If you’re sitting in a courtroom and can’t figure it out, you’re stupid. He also said the judge’s “background is a serious left-wing Democrat … about as far left as you can get” — though he acknowledged that Liman was nominated from Trump.
Giuliani said he did not regret defaming Freeman and Moss.
“I am sorry for the persecution I have been subjected to,” he said.
